Accessibility Statement

Our commitment
Doll Furniture Company believes that everyone — regardless of ability or how they access the internet — should be able to learn about our shop, see examples of our work, and reach us with questions. We're committed to making this website usable for the widest possible audience.
Standards we follow
This website was built with reference to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. WCAG is published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and is the standard most often cited under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for digital accessibility.
What we've done
To make the site accessible, we've taken these steps:
- Used semantic HTML with proper headings, landmarks, and document structure so screen readers can navigate the page logically.
- Added descriptive alt text to every photograph so people using screen readers can understand what each image shows — including detailed descriptions of furniture pieces, family members, the original 1940s delivery truck, and our restoration work.
- Included ARIA labels on the navigation, contact form, and interactive elements (the photo carousel, gallery, and image lightbox).
- Ensured keyboard navigation works throughout — you can reach every link, button, form field, and interactive element using the Tab key, and activate them with Enter or Space.
- Provided visible focus states so keyboard users can see where they are on the page.
- Maintained strong color contrast between text and background so the content is readable for visitors with low vision.
- Used responsive design so the site adapts to screen size — from large desktop monitors down to phones — without losing content.
- Respected the "prefers reduced motion" system setting — visitors who have requested reduced animation in their device settings will see the site without scroll-fade animations or auto-rotating slides.
- Used plain English wherever possible. Our shop has a long history with some specialized terms (Strip-o-lator, burl veneer, Eastlake style, etc.), but we explain them in context.
Areas we're still improving
We try our best, but this is an ongoing effort and we acknowledge there's always room to improve. We're aware of these limitations:
- Some of our archival photographs from the 1940s through the 1990s are lower resolution or have minor printing artifacts that we can't fix without losing historical authenticity.
- The auto-rotating photo carousel pauses on hover, on touch, and when the browser tab is hidden — but if you find this still causes problems with your assistive technology, please let us know.
- Embedded third-party services (Formspree contact form, Cloudflare Turnstile bot protection) have their own accessibility characteristics that are outside our direct control.
Need an alternative way to reach us?
If any part of this website is not accessible to you, or if you'd prefer to skip the website entirely and contact us directly, please:
- Call us: 309-452-2606 (Monday–Friday, 8 AM – 3 PM Central)
- Visit the shop: 400 North Beech Street, Normal, IL 61761
- Use a relay service: dial 711 (in the U.S.) for Telecommunications Relay Service, then ask for our shop number
We're a small family business, and we'd rather hear from you directly and help than have you struggle with a website.
Reporting accessibility issues
If you run into a barrier on this site — something doesn't work with your screen reader, a button is hard to reach, an image is missing description, color contrast is too low, or anything else — please tell us. We take the feedback seriously and will work to fix the problem.
Two ways to send feedback:
- Call 309-452-2606 and ask for James
- Use the contact form on our home page — please include "Accessibility" in the subject line
When you reach out, it helps if you can tell us:
- Which page or section had the issue (a URL or description is fine)
- What you were trying to do
- What happened — or what didn't happen
- What device, browser, or assistive technology you were using (if you know)
We aim to respond within five business days.
